Dr. Mike Sallu

Dr. Sallu is a seasoned consultant, trainer, and business leader with over 30 years’ experience in consulting, training, board leadership, governance, risk management, strategy, human resources management, accounting, auditing, finance management, and business management. He is currently the Lead Consultant at Evolve Board Consulting, and he chairs boards of some influential companies in East Africa. Previously, Dr. Sallu was a partner at PwC, where he was also the leader of the Assurance and Business Advisory Services Division of PwC Tanzania, the leader of the Financial Services Group at PwC Tanzania, and a governance board member of PwC Africa.

Dr. Sallu is a distinguished corporate governance consultant renowned for his expertise in boardroom dynamics, board and organisation culture, organizational ethics, and regulatory compliance. In his professional career, Dr. Sallu has provided services and engaged with boards of many top organisations in different sectors. In the banking sector, these organisations include, for example, NMB Bank Plc, National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Limited, CRDB Bank Plc, and Stanbic Bank Limited; in the public sector, they include Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Tanzania Electric Company Limited (TANESCO), Tanzania Telecommunication Company (TTCL), and Tanzania National Parks; in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) category, they include Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), Coca Cola, and Chai Bora; and in the mining sector, they include Barick Gold.

Currently, Dr. Sallu leads a team that reviews corporate governance practices in 50 Public and Statutory Corporations in Tanzania. As a keen promoter of sustainability, Dr. Sallu is passionate about ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy integration, and the development of effective ESG governance structures. His governance approach is known for balancing compliance with value-driven leadership and cultural transformation to build highly-effective and ethical boards. He regularly write articles on governance, which are published on LinkedIn by the name Monday Board Talk. He has also published and presented several papers in the subjects of strategy, banking, risk management, auditing, and accounting. He is an affiliated member of the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland, as well as a member of the Institute of Directors Tanzania (IoDT). He is also a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (FCPA), and he holds a PhD in Intercultural Studies.
